Hi Ziker

Congratulations on passing F8 and F7 with such good marks. Do not be disheartened by the P1 result since it was sat for the first time and you never really had an idea of the approach to answer.

P1 is an entirely theoretical paper and one may get confused as to how to score marks and how much to write. Time management is of utmost importance in this paper too like all the others. Remember the following points:

1. Question 1 should be answered in 90 minutes max with the remaining 25 marks questions getting 45 minutes each to answer.
2. The first question generally requires to be approached in a well thought out manner. The 25 marks questions seem to be direct questions and hence may be answered first. Accordingly you should take your own judgement of the sequence to follow.
3. This is a professional level paper and according to the examiner’s comments candidates who have understood the importance of the verbs like assess, evaluate, critically evaluate, construct etc and answered accordingly have scored well. He further adds that candidates who expected to pass using “rote memory” have failed in the questions where cognitive level was 2 or 3. Therefore this goes to say that P1 is a subject that requires application of the concepts to the given cases.
4. While studying remember to apply concepts like “good corporate governance practices, codes of conduct, ICGN principles, risk management methodologies etc to real world examples. Read various famous cases like the Enron, WorldCom, Pergamon press etc from our P1 GTG study text. These cases will help you understand how P1 can be applied in practice which a Professional Accountant is supposed to do.

You have missed your target by only 2 marks. This shows that you need to work a bit more on the application of the P1 concepts that you are already well versed with.

you are always welcome to come and ask.

Regarding the structure of your answer i would advise that always make a rough structure in your mind first. You may list down all the small points that you want to include. Start by explaining the concept and then write how it applies to the given case. Dividing the answer under different sub-headings and explaining each point separately will also help the examiner know your clarity and may help you score.

ok since this was first attempt of P1 paper how about the seniors give a step by step guidance to the juniors?

like first do the study text but focus on certain topics.. after doing the study text practise to develop your understanding etc so you can answer the questions as the examiner expects..

hi Taceturn,

Well, its good that you aim to clear all the 3 essentials papers at the same time. Its a bit tough though. The P1 syllabus though seems short it is a complete theory (so cannot be called scoring) plus a new subject totally with no past papers to rely on. Please read my comments on the paper and study well with lots of planning!! best of luck!

Hi
I think passing P1 is an easy task compare to other Professional papers. My suggestion is to revised reivsion kit logically then all topic will be in your grip. Main topics are Corporate Goverance (The role of non excutive committes i.e Audit committe , rumeneration commitee , Risk Managment committe), Stake holder interest in exting & new projects.
