Hi Vivienne
Even though it seems that you are the only one writing P2 as of now, don’t rest your case. You can always post your queries here and get answers from subject experts. Also please post useful tips on P2 that you may come across.

Hi Vivienne,

Hi
I'll be giving P2 a go also in June - together with F8 and P1.
I'm not looking forward to it at all!!
I get day release from work for college studies, so far we have looked at all the computational areas - consolidated p&l, b/s, cash flow, acquisions, disposals, forex and pensions. - We've got to self study the theoretical bits at home and the tutor hopes to start ploughing through past papers after the Easter break, which won't be long coming.
Don't know how best to tackle the subject on the forum - as I'm new to all this. Any ideas most appreciated.

Hi
Its a good thing you've already started with a few chapters. Go through the entire text, do not leave out any part of the syllabus and practice the question bank thoroughly. If you go through the past exam papers, a 50 mark question from consolidation (SEC D and parts of SEC A & C) appears on the exam. So remember to be well versed with SEC C & D in addition to the others.
All the best.
hi
im also giving f8 f9 p1 along wid p2....
i have just started wid my p2 studies and am doing the consolidation stuff..
do we have any plan of coordinating and how??
thnks and gud luk to all of u...

pritika i dont seem to understand you. i thought the question paper is consolidation question 1 50marks and then section b three questions and you choose 2.what do you mean by sec c and d maybe i dont understand the abbreviation of sec.
hi
m also taking P2 along with P1 and P3 ..
what i have learnt from my previous studies to approach the paper like p2
we should first learn all the standards that are to be tested in the exams.
practise them as well before moving to complex topics like consolidation and performance measurment.
why this is so?
because when we start solving past papres we always see that most of the questions have more then one standards or topics of the slybus and that creates confusion if we have completed one section of the study text and not the other..
however subject like P3 can be practised as soon as one section is completed ..
am i rite?
i have'nt started P2 P3 yet because gtg study material is'nt published here yet in pakistan .
butmy approach would be this as i mentioned..
any suggestion to improve this?

yes ziker
the approach you have mentioned of starting with the standards is very good because the consolidation questions wil keep refering to the standards.infact thats the approach we have taken at my school we are through with the standards and we should be starting group accounts next week.but am concerned that you havent started studying yet.since you dont have the books yet you can start by even downloading the articles from the acca website or the examinable standards from their site.otherwise get working time is running out
Vivienne
The ACCA P2 syllabus is divided into 8 sections alphbetically (i.e. section A to H) - you can go to the ACCA website and check it out. Consolidation comes under Section D and most of the "hardcore" accounting topics fall under Section C. The Study Guides in these sections you MUST know like the back of your hand. In addition questions do come from Sections A, B, E, F, G, H so you cannot escape from them. The 50 Mark consolidation question can have elements of a lease transaction or any other topic from section C in addition to the main consolidation problem.
I hope that answers your question. Do let me know if you need to know more.
I will do A, B, E and F and then c and last D. Does this sound okay anybody?

hi pritika,
i must have got you wrong. i thought you were talking about the exam paper format and not the study text.am now clear thanks.milano the approach you have taken is ok. but how far have you gone because what i believe is revision should be for two months.
Hi Vivienne
I am a new member on the forum. I will be doing P2 in June and really like your no nonsense approach towards preparing for the exam. I have started reading the standards, but you have covered more areas than I have. I have to start pushing myself a a bit more. Thanks for the encouragement.

yo amanda,
welcome to the forum.you are not late.you are just on time. as i said this is an analytical paper.we have to know the standards in and out and to be able to put up any strong arguments and any exposure drafts if there are any.i have started an approach where i wll be putting up some brief notes on all the examinable standards every monday and friday .you can put up anything you know on those standards and any questions so that as we analyse them in detail we should be able to answer any question in the exam.together we shall succeed.
