Hi

I'll be taking papers F5 and F7 in June 2008. (have passed F6) Have seen the syllabus for F5 and am quite confident for it (bit peeved that i didnt get exemption from it but still). Therefore i believe i can do 3 papers in June papers F5, F7 and one other. My question is should i do paper F8 or F9? From the various blogs i have seen i'm getting conflicting advice. Some say do F8 as its theory and will combine well with F7 as thats computational and theory whilst some say that F8 requires too much work (if one is doing 3 subjects) so leave that until the end and do F9 first. However some say F9 also requires a lot of work!! Therefore am confused. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance

Hi Tab,

Congrats for passing F6 and hope you clear all your paper in one attempt. You are planning to take three papers for June that is F5, F7 and F8 or F9 but seems to be bit confused. Don’t be confuse by others advice. You should take advice from everyone but at the same time, follow your own judgement.

F5 is performance management which contain both theory and practical but more of practical, F7 is financial reporting this is practical paper, F8 - Audit is theory but has a very practical concepts, it contain all case study form of questions. F9 is financial management which has theory and more of practical.

You can think of the following options
1. you can choose two papers for June and two papers for Dec
 F5 & F9 as both are the management papers so it will be a good combination for your preparation.
 F7 & F8 they are interconnected as F7 is accounting and F8 is Audit.

2. you can choose to take three papers for June and leave one for Dec
 F5, F9 and F7 as all are practical based and lots of practice is needed. Or you can take F5, F9 and F8 two practical and one theory paper. It’s up to you whether to choose F7 or F8.

So now rethink and make your own decision and start your preparation. Best of luck.

Hope this will help

Hi,

Do you have any audit experience? If you do, then F8 could be a good one to take as well. If not, it can be quite tough to understand the concepts.

Many students, in my experience do F7 and F8 together, as you need to know the accounting standards to decide how to test particular items and assess a set of financial statements. So in this was these are a good combination.

Hi Rajni/vandana

Thanks for your detailed replies. I was thinking along of just doing the exams in order and part of me thinks that they're in order for a reason. So was thinking abt doing F5, F7 and F8 even though i have no audit experience. I think if i put the paper off i'm already fearing it which may not be good psychologically. I have to tackle that paper at some time so sooner is probably better than later. I am also working full-time (although my workplace is near my home so i save on travelling time) therefore is doing 3 papers whilst working too much? (even though from looking at the syllabus i know some of paper 5 already?)

Many thanks in advance.

Hi Priyo/Tahir

Definitely start with F1-F3. After that, you can do what you feel comfortable with. I know it seems odd that you can do the papers in any order, but ACCA have made it like that for a reason. you do not need any knowledge from 1 paper to do another, but obviously it will be helpful to do F7 and F8 around the same time, as F8 requires some knowledge of accounting standards and you will be fresh with your knowledge for F7.

3 papers is tough if you are working full time, but if you are dedicated, there is no reason why you should not pass.

Best of luck and let us know what you have decided!

Hi

I am just curious as to whether the majority of ACCA students are working as well as studying as I notice people seem to do 3 exams at a session whilst I seem to find it hard to even do the 1 sometimes!! I wonder if my approach to the study text is all wrong. I try to work through each chapter making notes as I go but I find it very long winded doing this and also time consuming.

Has anyone got any tips please!

Thanks:confused:

Hi Mark,

Every person has his own way of studying. Many students are there who are working along with studying ACCA and are comfortable taking three papers. The style of their preparation varies. I think one should go through the study text carefully and highlight the important point and proceed further. If you have seen GTG study text, after each learning outcome there are synopsis which contain the important point and are good for revision. One should read study text once or twice and then start solving question bank rather than making notes.

Hope this helps.

Thanks

Rajni

Thanks for that and it does help. I think I tend to become flooded by the information and write notes to try and break it down!!! This is so lengthy so will do as you have and read a chapter then work through the question bank.

Do you know if there is a UK version of the F7 question bank?

Thanks again.

I use to take notes as well but found this took up to much time, now I just read through the chapters and complete the test yourself and practice questions, Once I've completed the section I go on to do the questions from the question bank book.
Hopefully this will leave me with enough time to do lots of practice exams.

Cheers
