as per my knowledge:

A statute is a prescribed, written law of a country or state, written and enacted by its legislative authority, perhaps to then be approved by the highest executive in the government, and finally published. Usually, statutes command, prohibit, or declare policy. Statutes are sometimes referred to as legislation. It is also used to refer to an International treaty that establishes an institution. The term was adapted from England an about the 18 century.

Law means any written or positive rule or collection of rules prescribed under the authority of the state or nation, as by the people in its constitution

Hi sunset corniche,

I think you've got Law mixed with Common law.

Law is a formal mechanism of social control . This is how we define law.

Now there are 2 sources of law:

In Short :

Common law - Those based on Judicial precedents and law of land

Statue = Legislation imposed by the Government.

Does that help?
