Theory Framework

I wonder if someone could name theory framework for audit of profit and loss, i am quite familar with accounting and auditing standards, but i can not to do use of this knowledge because of fact that this is normative theories and i need some kind of scientific framework that is build on and brings some positivism ideas, it is tricky task and i hope to get some advices from You.
