View Full Version : Reading And Understanding The Requirements of F8 Exams Questions-Crucial To Passing!
You can answer an F8 question poorly by misunderstanding the requirements of a question.
The way to make sure you do not misunderstand requirements in exam would be to pick up 15 past papers(spend about 30 minutes) rewriting the requirements using other verbs(NOT ANSWERING THE QUESTION)
I know sometimes we make that mistake by misunderstanding the question. Have you tried it ? Have it worked ?
Got to be honest I haven't done the 15.I did it with 5.
But the point is if your understanding of the key verbs in the question is right then you will definitely answer the question well and not deviate.Hey we are yet to sit the exam right?
It will surely work.Spare some 30 minutes and try it.
I'm just about winding up reading my texts-I'm left with the last two chapters. That would be the first exercise before reviewing the questions themselves.
yes we are still to write the exams and I will give it a try.
I have to push in some more work on auditing as I find myself more with LAW. i have to allocate equal time to each paper.
Hi,
Following are the verbs commonly found in the examination question. They require to be dealt in the following ways:
(i) Identify : Pick out a relevant issue / point from the scenario (list the issues)
(ii) Comment on: Offer an opinion, debate a topic, express a reaction
(iii) Explain: Clarify and provide extra details on a subject matter
(iv) Evaluate / assess: Weigh up advantages and disadvantages and make a judgement
(v) Critically discuss: Consider a subject in depth and come to an opinion
(v) Justify: Come to a conclusion and provide a strong argument for a decision
(vi) Contrast: Make a comparison
I hope this helps!

I find a big problem with me is sticking to the requirement, or writing too much which in turn I run out of time..
How can I be sure to stick to the requirement, How can I be sure what I have written the examiner undersands? As I find my self writing the same thing differently just to make sure I've got my point across.
Hi Kelly
I have the opposite problem to yours. I write straight to the point; eg. if the examiner gives a scenario and asks "advise Tom, Dick and Harry if they have a case" I will write each one and tell them if they have a "case" without explaining the main point. I am practicing to do some sensible explanation.
I guess we all have our own issues and it is wonderful that we can bring it here and discuss it. This way we should be able to do the correct writing/presentation.
Hi All
To understand what does Examiner Want is an important factor for passing , despiote my weak knowledge here are my tips:
1- read the required first (i. e. before to go through the scenario)as this will make you in questioning mind with each information you read in scenario.
2-usually be ware about a linking word (for Example when examiner said : Identify and briefly discuss....) here u may get only a half of availble marks if u didn't discussed.
3-where possible link beetwen the required & the basic knoledge which u have in this erea ( for example when examiner asked for a risk associated with acceptance of an audit, ask ur self what could be a usual risk here and look for information from scenario to support this).
BR , with hope to pass

I have the same problem of writing too much. However to help me with this I will usually practice past paper question under exam conditions. I will then check to make sure that what I have written is in accordance with the answer. This helps me so that in the exam room I will be able to finish on time.
Hi Ptty noel,
Long time no contact, hope you're getting on well with your studies. I like your strategy, at the moment I'm answering past qns way beyond the time allocated. I really must try and stick to the time allocated.
I should try and see how much I get answered within the time limit, and see if I can improve on that.
Happy studying all!!
