Hey Guys,
What's up?How are you guys doing, fine i guess?I wrote F5 for June 09 but was not really satisfied with my performance so should in case i will have to re-write it i will need to hook up with you all so we can all log through the study together.
Also,i want to know if its good to get the GTG study materials,ie if anybody has found them to be of good standard and help in respect to simplification and it being vast in coverage. My email add is -****.
I will also be writing both F6 and F7.
Thank you all.
Hi All,
It feels that all of you are ready for the studies for Dec 2009 exam. I will suggest all of you to start the studies now only. The earliest is best!!!!
Start studying chapters, solve questions. Revise the studies weekly.
All the best!!!!!!!
YEAH,WE CAN ALL DO THIS TOGETHER AS A TEAM.

Hi there!
I would suggest you to use GTG material.
I found it easy and simple to understand and it has enough questions for practice (as per the exam pattern) as well.
All the best
Hi all,
It’s really great that you are seating for December 2009. I would suggest you to start your studies now only.
I also would like to suggest you to use GTG material.
All concepts are explained in simple manner. Plenty of examples are provided to get concept very clear. There are many questions for your practice.
The question bank covers exam standard questions. Some hints and tips are also given which will help you to solve questions.
All the best

Hello darlings,
i am sitting for f5 in Dec, trying to practise as much as possible but linear programing is giving me issues. Who can explain clearly what a feasible region is?

Hello darlings,
I am sitting for f5 in Dec, trying to practise as much as possible but linear programing is giving me issues. Who can explain clearly what a feasible region is?
Hi Annat
Based on my understanding, Limiting factor is any factor that limits the activities/production of an organization. Limiting factor analysis help companies to identify bottleneck resources and use the best combination possible of the available resources to maximize its profit. Limiting factors in an organization or a company may be raw material, labour time and/or machine time. Limiting factor analysis can be applied where there is only one limiting factor involved.
In the case where there are more than one limiting factor, we have to use Linear programming method.
Linear programming is mathematical model which is solved using mathematical equations. The common area on the graph paper or where both equations solutions for x and y meet is called Feasible Region.
In limiting factor analysis each product contribution is calculated sales less variable cost) and then divide the contribution by per unit of limiting factor.
Here's an example taken from IMPT course material
Herbus limited manufactures summerhouses and gardens sheds. Each product passes through a cutting process and an assembly process. one summerhouse makes a contribution of $50 and takes 6 hours cutting time and 4 hours assembly time. while on garden shed makes a contribution of $40 and takes 3 hours cutting time and and eight hours assembly time . there is a maximum of 36hours cutting time and 48 hours assembly time.
cutters are paid $10per/hr and assembly workers $15 per/hr.
Required - Formulate the Linear programming problem.
Step 1 is to let x = summerhouse and
let y = Garden sheds
Step 2 - is to formulate both equations because there than one limiting factor therefore cutting time will be one factor and assembly time another.
Eq. 1 = 6x + 3y less than or equal to 36
Eq. 2 = 4x + 8y less than or equal to 48
solve both equations for x and y by making x = 0 to solve for y and y = 0 to solve for x
when you find the values for x and y in both equations plot them on your graph. when you solve for both possible values of x and y in equation 1 x = 6 and y = 12, then plot this line on your graph, do the same for equation 2 and then the area immediately to the right where both lines cross is the feasible region.
Hi Timeablebunchy,
Thank you very much for your responce; you have explained in simple terms and now i understand perfectly.
The other problem i find with limiting factor questions is that, how can one compute contribution of the limiting factor, if the component got out of a material that is limited is not for sale??
For example;
Material 1 is a limited material of a company that produces products p4, p6 (these two are sold at $125 and $175 respectively. however, the company uses the same material to produce components c3, c5 which are used internally. this means, you only incure costs for this material but you don't earn anything from them.
the total direct costs for p4 and p5 are $55 and $75 respectively.costs for c3 and c5 are $44 and 45$ respectively.
expected demand is 2000units of p4, 1500 units of p6, 500 units of c3, 1000 units of c5
The limited material is 1000 square metres and each is bought at 20$.
You ave an alternative to buy components c3 & c5 from another supplier at $75 and $95 respectively.
Required; to calculate and show the most profitable course of action for the co.
