What is the difference between someone who is an employee and someone who is self employed?
Contract of Services is someone who is employed (employee)
Contract for Services is someone who is contracted (contractor) or self employed for example to repair your roof - carpenter.
When a person is self employed that person would have the ability to accept or refuse work, to delegate, to choose his hours of work, to take holidays without restrictions, he will own his own tools or equipment, he will work for more than one organizations and he will be paid for project (the work he has done). He will be in most cases be responsible for his own taxes.
An employed person will have to take instructions, work specific hours, Taxes (statutory) will be deducted from his wage, his employer will have to provide the "tools" for him to do his work.
Or put it another way. If you are working for a company i.e. Pepsi than you are its employee.
If you go to Pepsi with a tender and tell them that you will provide them with IT Consultancy in return of fee than you are self-employee.
Suze has soundly explained the difference.
Hope this helps.
