Welcome to the BIT sessions for the june 2009 sitting.they say 'the early bird catches the worm' so dear colleagues lets get started .

I want to make the following suggestions.let us follow the topics and assign say a week for any postings on that topic and then lastly do a question or two.For example our first topic is BUSINESS STRATERGY.Let us post any useful hints on this topic then at the end we shall do some questions.once the group grows then we can assign a person to lead each particular topic and then end with posting a question or two.
Other suggestions are welcome

Remember this week we are starting with BUSINESS STRATERGY and am leading.at the end of 1 week i should be able to post some questions. Lets keep those points flowing.

Business stratergy can be broken down into 3.

1. Stratergic Position
2.Stratergic choices
3.Stratergic implementation/action

1.stratergic position
A stratergic position is determined by internal and external factors.These may be summarised by the SWOT analysis

Strength
Weaknesses
Opportunities
Threats

SWOT leads to us making stratergic choices.the choices in turn leads us to make options.options make us select.

Implementation means finding the resources to be used.implementation means empowering choices.

A stratergic position of a business will address the following
1.where we are
2.where do we want to go
3.what constraints exist on our resources
4.what are the key threats form external enviroment.

strategic position, strategic choices, strategy into action doesn't happen in linear fashion i.e top down approach.

Sometimes strategy into action may take place first then top management may come across the real strategic position.

Siddarth nice you have joined.how best can we study this paper on the forum.i was thinking that since P3 is all about case studies.i would suggest that we look at it from that angle.the site that i had ealier mentioned is full of case studies.why dont we look at a certain topic and then the person leading at that particular time should select 1 case study from that site then we bring out points as a group.that way we shall move as a team and be able to build up on our inadequacies . you will agree with me that we cannot post or paste those long case studies on the forum.
at the end of the business stratergy we should be able to pick one case study and then bring out the necessary points.

Hi Vivie,

I agree with you that case study method of study is better in this subject.

Actually i am searching for a case study book with answers for the questions in the case study. So that we can post the case study and questions for discussion, if someone goes wrong we can correct them.

But I am unable to find it. I find lot of case studies with questions but without answers. I dont know how to assess whether our answers are correct.

If you have any books like that, we can have a great start.

Can any forum members suggest us a good book for basic strategic management case studies with answers.

Nice to see your post, but i cannot download any case study from that site. it is asking us to pay some amount.

I am a beginner in this subject. As a student i feel case study relating to basics of strategic management will be better to understand initially

what i suggested earlier on was that we go step by step on the chapters when we finish one chapter .we do a question. we still havent contributed much on the business stratergy.am still compiling something.i will look at a case study on that topic .we can even get a case study without answers then we deliberate and bring out pointsas a group.

Yes i have a case study but the problem is that it relates to my country's scenario.so you can only answer it if you are leaving here.i am trying to rephraise the same question with the same concept but on a global scenario.this is why it has taken long.but it is receiving maximum attention.i also want to post some brief summaries on the statergic lenses and so on.

Since you are saying you are almost through with business statergy topic,perhaps you can post a summary of an overview of what you have understood and any important items you wish to highlight.this will make us understand the context of the topic .

My aim is to get through this paper on the first attempt! so you can count on me for active participation.

All those that are saying they would like to join,you are very welcome.please there is no other requirement apart from just participating.
I posted a cease study called BOWLAND and something on the models about two weeks ago but up to now there has been no response.so guys mere expression of interest is not enough but partipating will make us all get through.
