View Full Version : Advice
I am planning to take F9,F8 and F6 in June 2008. How do I plan my studies for F9. Since I have already a financial background, so should I only study the keynotes and practice the question bank so that I save time for F6, which is entirely new for me as I have chose the UK Variant.
Please help
Annie
Hi,
I think studying Studytext is vital so that you can be assured that you have all the information necessary for the paper.
Cheers

I agree. As important are practising questions from the Question Bank, take some time off from your schedule and make it a point to go through the Study Text so that your concepts become clearer.

even a pre-fabricated building will not last as long as one with a strong foundation. You won't believe this, but I still remember so much of what I studied for my ICAEW, even though that was more than 15 years ago. If you learn something well the first time, you will always be able to draw on it in the future. For example, I hated statistics, normal distributions and correlation. I never EVER thought I would use it in the future. However, last year, when we implemented lean and six sigma in our business, I realised how crucial it was!!!
So I say, if you are going to study, then don't study to pass the exams - study instead to enrich your future!
Hi all,
Thanks for all the advice, so it is clear to me that I have to study the study text first to make my concepts clear and then practice. So, can you tell me how do I plan my study period and prepare for the papers I plan to give this June. How much time should I give to the study text for each paper and then the question bank for practice. From my previous experience I observed that the queston bank really helps a lot. The more you practice the more easily you can solve the exam paper. Is it necessary for me give more time to F6 as I have chosen the UK variant.

Annie
Hi
Keeping all your requirements in mind I could suggest you to finish off with the subjects and topics you are familiar with. Spend little time on these topics sine you already know these concepts. This would give you some confidence that you know something and a part of your syllabus is over with.
Do go over a topic in the text and then immediately practice questions from it in the Question Bank. This would not only make your concepts clearer, but also give you an idea of what kind of questions you can expect in the examination. In this way you will be able to "tune your mind" to think according to the exam.
Since you would be answering three papers this June, study a topic from one subject and then move on to another subject. This will break the monotony.
I would suggest you to revise thoroughly topics you are not familar with, because to reiterate what Vandana has said, study to enrich your future.
Last, but not the least, you have five months before the exam, I would suggest you to start as early as possible, even now, because the earlier you start, the more time you would have to revise!!!!

HI THERE,
I joined this onlytoday, my name is hrinkaa. Firstly, i appreciate Pritika's approach to studying.
I am from finance background, now with IT (not in finance line), but i do not want to forget all finance i have studied. dats y i joined ACCA. I joined ACCA in Dec00, and whenever i wrote i cleared the exams.
any from Bangalore, India. I find it very difficult to study alone, and no coaching is available. (Of course self help is the best help).
I have the basic textbooks, but i am most weak in Financial Accounting.
I plan to take FM and Income Tax. does IT still have Indian variant option available. Any willing can contact me please.
Thanks and Cheers - hrinkaa
Hi Hrinkaa
There is an indian variant for tax in ACCA. You can do that. I would like to know how many attempts did you give and how may papers did you clear till now. Which papers are you planning to give this June. This would enable to give a proper guidance to give the papers and their combinations.

Dear Annie,
please remember that all subjects are to be studied well. We should never assume that we can skip some sections because we are already exposed to that in some earlier learning.
F9 has some areas that are examiners pet to question, so we should learn them thoroughly.
Good to know that tax Indian variant is still there. that solves a problem for me (in terms of getting Singhania book). I have cleared upto P5 (including conversion passes).
I plan to take Income tax and Fin Mgmt papers (F6, F9), simultaneously prepare for F7, F8, since they have common areas to study, and give them in December.
I have been postponing since i am not confident of my level and more important no interactive learning is available where i reside.
Are you also from Bangalore.

Annie, people like us, who have earlier learning knowledge, can make a start by making a condensed formulae list - subject area wise.
For example, Cap budgeting - list of formulae, their derivations, so it makes a good analytical learning.
Similary Working capital management - individual components formulae list.
that way we can brush up our learning also. Don't you agree its a good place to start.

Hi Hrinkaa,
There is a Indian variant for F6 Ta, but not for the higher level P6 paper. you may want to bear this in mind, if you are planning on doing the higher level tax paper.
I know studying is hard, but we are here to support you as much as we can! Let us know if you have any specific queries!

Thanks Vandana,
how to study Tax- international variant then - its vaster than indian variant (which is itself an atlantic ocean).
Also, adapting to international variant after studying local variant is not easy. I agree though, that international variant is always better scopewise.

Hi Hrinkaa,
I would honestly suggest doing the UK tax paper for both, if you want to do both tax papers. If you are flexible with your option papers, then you could do Indian F6 tax and not do the higher level tax paper. You could opt to do P4 and P5 for example.
Hope this helps!
