ACCA Compulsory questions are very long in nature. Reading and analysing it takes a lot of available time. What is the best way of handling these long questions. I mean best strategy in handling this questions. Thanks.

Hi,

What I do is , Read the Skim read the question first and see what the examiner wants me too do and how much marks its worth. That gives me an idea of from which topic the question is about and what is required of me.

Then I plan my answer after reading the questions.

For some things there are no shortcuts but there are bestways.

Best of luck

Acid

NB: This question would have been more appropriate in any section other the GTG Distrubutors around the world.

Thanks Acid - I have moved this to the correct section. Admin

Hi
I think Acid is right once u get the topic which u have to answer…it takes very less time to prepare the answer… In addition to what Acid has said I would like to say as u have noticed all the ACCA questions are case study based so, while reading the chapter try to remember the case studies & solve as much as question from question bank as u can. This will make u by heart the topic easily. One more thing which I want to put stress on is that read & read again the chapter which will be useful for understanding the topic more.
I don’t know which study material u r use to study. I would like to suggest Study Material of GTG is very good. The topics are very well explained.

Hope u will get some help from my suggestion.

Don’t forget to reply and add some of ur experiences with studies. Happy Learning.:)

Thank you.

Hi,

I would add a couple of points:

1) As Acid said, it is important that you read the requirement FIRST. Understand what the examiner is asking for and break up the question into as many parts as you can. For example the question may say " Explain the issues which limit the independence of the internal audit department in Matalas Co. Recommend a way of overcoming each issue." So you know that some marks will go for explaining the issue (and why it is an issue) and then ways of overcoming the issue.

2) next read through each para of the question/case study. highlight any keywords and annotate. Next to each para, write a couple of keywords which tell you what the para is about.

3) Once you have made notes against each para, try to draw up a mini answer plan, where you have main headings and you slot the points from each para in a sensible order

4) Now you can write your answer and you will be organised!

Good luck and let me know if this helps!

Hi

Can anyone guide about the time management of compulsory long question?

How much total time should be given to this question?

And out of that how much time approximately should be allotted for reading the question, analysing the question, planning the answer and actual writing the answer?

Depends upon the exam paper which you are giving . For F4 and F6 , Always give 1.8min for 1 mark each.

The best way is If you see that there is a question which you havent revised or wont be able to answer well then write whatever you know in bullet points and save time there and move to the next. I did this and saved 16 minutes which really helped a lot.

The importance of time management was known to me untill I gave F4 and F6.

Thanks for your useful advice!

Any guidance on the P level papers? ……especially for the theoretical paper like P3 or P7?
