Hi,

I'm trying to clarify the difference from todays exam in question 3 part b and c.

ie what is the definition of downstream and upstream supply chains?

I just want to make sure I got it the right way around so would be grateful for any input.

A supply chain is a chain along which a raw material moves along to become a finished good. A supply chain is also a value chain as value is added to the raw material at each stage to turn it into a consumable finished product. There are two streams which exist in any supply chain which are ‘upstream’ which means ‘from suppliers’ and ‘downstream’ defined as ‘to customers’.

Question 3 of the P3 exam really let me down. I missunderstood part b and c Down sream and Up stream. The definitions were the other way round but the strategy was right. I hope i get some few marks from these two areas.
