How best can a ' public interest' be defined?
Regards
Hi,
Public Interest is a relative term which can be defined as something which is good for the public at large , not just the immediate or connected share holders of the company , for example the society where the company is located or where it sale its output.
I hope this helps.
In short, a decision which serves the interests of the maximum number of people is said to be in the public interest.

Public interest refers to what is done for the good of the majority. That is to say what benefits the majority(public) as opposed to the few. Take an instance of an organisation that is committed to social responsibility, by say, MTN sponsoring the world cup 2010. It is done for the majority as opposed to say satisfying the immediate interests of stake holders.
