ICAI & ICAEW The GTG Study Programme

The GTG Study Programme

GTG’s rigorous study programme has been specifically designed to take into account the knowledge of ICAI members.  It is a combination of face to face tuition and members studying at home on their own.  Please note, it is essential that ICAI members understand that there will be a reasonable amount of home study pre-course, between the courses and post course.

GTG Study Programme

GTG’s tuition is divided into 2 phases of 5 days:
The aim of the first phase is to ensure that students have a sound understanding of the techniques needed to pass the Case Study.  It may be very different from exams ICAI members may have taken before and requires rigorous analytical, time management and communication skills.  The GTG course, has been designed by the former examiner of the ICAEW Case Study and GTG director, Peter Keeling, in association with the team at GTG, led by Chief Executive and ICAEW member, Vandana Saxena Poria OBE and ICAS Case Study Trainer, Colin Garvie.  The courses focus on the most important aspects of the Case Study including:

  • Assumed knowledge from papers lower down in the ICAEW syllabus
  • Preparing for taking the Case Study – the pre-reading that is necessary
  • The basic skills involved in a Case Study
  • How to analyse the advance information you will receive
  • How to plan and structure your answer in the exam
  • The way the examiner views ‘analysis’ and how to use your analytical skills to sift through the information given in the real case study
  • How to prove to the examiner that you have the required communication skills needed

The second phase is geared towards focusing on the final exam and will include the following:

  • Feedback from the examiners, so you understand what they are looking for
  • A summary of the technical areas that could be tested in the Case Study
  • Mock Case Studies, so you are aware of what is expected of you and you are adequately prepared
  • Discussion regarding the advanced information sent out for the Case Study
  • Detailed guidance on exam technique and time management skills
  • Key areas of the marking guide and how to best present your answer in the real exam
